I am selling my Kapa Continental 12-string electric guitar, made in or around Silver Springs, Maryland in the mid 1960’s. It comes in a modern faux tweed hard case which is in good condition. I’ve had many Kapa guitars over the years - they are well made and a part of American guitar history.

This Continental is all original and in very good condition. There have been a few nicks on the body, which can seen on the back. The primer is white and stands out so I have touched up the nicks in the black area with a nitrocellulose paint pen.

The frets are original as far as I can tell and are in fine shape, no obvious wear or pitting. The neck is made by Hofner and was imported by Kapa. It is relatively thin, similar to a Mosrite neck, not like the slightly wider ones found on the Minstrel 12-string Kapa guitars. It is straight with a little relief. Pics included. The truss rod works if you want to do any fine tuning with it.

I am pretty sure these are Hofner type 511 Humbucker pickups made by Franz Pix in Germany (who made pickups for Hofner as well). Kapa used these pickups from their beginnings around 1963 until they began to make their own versions around 1968. Both are clean sounding and have character, are distinct in tone from each other, and are loud for 65 year old pickups.

Another thing I really like about this guitar is the tailpiece, with the same metal tail cover as the one used on the Kapa Bass. I’ve owned other Kapa Continental 12-strings and they have all had the tremolo tailpiece, like the six strings. This hard tail version is pretty rare and I think preferable.

I have not changed strings for a while but they’ll get you going until you are ready to do so.
