A collector’s opportunity, a 1961 Hofner 500/1 Cavern Bass

This is a vintage Hofner from late 1961 (65 yrs.old Not a REISSUE!) It’s like it came out of a time capsule. It happened to be built at the very end of 61 when Hofner was in transition from the 61 cavern model to the new 62 model 500/1 body. A factory built late 61 Cavern model with the arched back and script logo headstock! The control panel is stamped 250K 331. (The potentiometers stamped on the fiberboard or composite base, in the pictures. The "250K" label indicates electrical resistance. The following 3 digits show the production week and year: the final digit is the year, and the preceding digits denote the week. For example, code 33 means the 33rd week of 1961)

The previous owner had a Hofner specialist rewired the original pickups - works and sounds fantastic.

- Real and all original lacquer!

- The two white plastic tuner buttons are not the originals, previous owner had to replace them because original where broken. Rest is all original.

- It has been played very rarely

- inside it’s stamped Oct 1959 inside the top. On the picture you see a mirror held inside the bass... so it is reversed. So I flipped the image so it is readable.

- Not original hard case... I just added a new Hofner case which is included. It’s a very clean bass for being 65 years old! Some checking along the grain… no spider web checking!

- Bass is all in working order sounds and looks amazing!”
