Development began in 1971 by a small group that included Leo Fender, and sales began in 1976.

It has enjoyed consistent popularity from its release to the present day, and is now becoming a staple model on par with the Jazz Bass and Precision Bass.

It is favored by numerous world-renowned musicians such as Louis Johnson and Free, and is likely a model that any bassist who has seen it has dreamed of owning at least once.

While the Stingray has been (and continues to be) available in various models such as the “Classic,” “Special,” and “Darkray,” this particular instrument is a 2003 “Stingray 4”—the quintessential standard model.

It neither leans excessively toward a modern style nor attempts to recreate the 1970s “Pleasney” era; rather, it is the most universal model, an evolution of the original design that has kept pace with the times.

It features a solid ash body with a satisfying heft, paired with a maple fingerboard and neck that showcase a lustrous grain pattern.

This is the classic, foolproof configuration synonymous with the Stingray.

The density of the low end, derived from its weight of approximately 4.7 kg, is simply outstanding.

The aggressive midrange characteristic of the Stingray is, of course, still very much present.

While the Stingray has been cherished by countless legends, this particular instrument faithfully reproduces their signature sounds.

Although this is a modern Stingray equipped with a 3-band EQ, it’s a model that firmly retains the classic Stingray character.

While it shows signs of use—such as scratches—appropriate for its age, its cosmetic condition is relatively impressive compared to other instruments from the same era.

It has a dignified, well-worn look.

The neck condition is excellent; the high-string side is straight, while the low-string side shows a slight forward bow—a twist that I personally find ideal. It can be adjusted to a well-balanced setup even with low action, while still ensuring sufficient relief on the bass-string side.

The truss rod has barely been adjusted and has plenty of play left, and the frets still have about 80% of their original depth remaining.

There are currently no issues with the electronics, so you’ll be able to enjoy this guitar for many years to come.

With its impeccable condition and sound, this is a highly recommended, ready-to-play instrument.

Don’t miss this opportunity.
