Vintage Gibson Maestro Vibrola 1974 – Complete & Original Norlin Era - SG / Firebird / ES Restoration
This is the real thing: an original 1970s Gibson Maestro Vibrola tailpiece, fully functional and complete, with visible road wear, aging, marks, and honest cosmetic wear from decades of use. Not a modern reissue. Not a fake relic part. Just an original Gibson unit that has lived on a real guitar for half a century.
The Maestro Vibrola is one of the most recognizable pieces of Gibson SG hardware ever made. It is strongly tied to the classic SG look — especially the SG Standard and SG Custom — giving the guitar that long, elegant tailpiece profile and the unmistakable Lyre-style visual identity.
Although the SG is the first guitar most players associate with it, this type of Gibson-style Vibrola is also relevant for several vintage-correct Gibson applications, including Firebird models, ES-335, ES-330, ES-345, ES-355, and other period-correct restoration or custom projects where this long vibrola format belongs.
Artist-wise, this hardware sits in serious company. Eric Clapton’s legendary “Fool” SG, George Harrison’s SG era, Robby Krieger’s SG association, Frank Zappa’s Roxy SG lineage, and countless 60s/70s Gibson players helped make the Maestro-equipped SG one of the most visually iconic rock guitars ever built.
This unit is not cosmetically perfect, and that is exactly the point. It has marks, wear, and the kind of aging that only comes from time, use, and actual music — not from someone attacking new metal with sandpaper.
A proper original 1974 Gibson Maestro Vibrola for a real SG restoration, a vintage-correct Gibson project, or anyone who understands that old Gibson hardware carries a different kind of weight.
Functional, complete, naturally aged, and absolutely not pretending to be anything newer than it is.
