Near mint condition Shure Model CX80G HiZ crystal microphone. The original Shure 99A197 crystal element is still present and producing fine output.
The mic has the original 5 foot cloth covered cable and it is in great shape with no fraying or breaks. There is a standard 1/4 inch plug ready to connect to most any modern amp, mixer or audio interface. Cosmetically it is in excellent condition and displays beautifully!
Classic vintage Shure crystal tone for blues harmonica or authentic “lo-fi” recording. There are not a lot of these CX80’s still around in working condition, this one is a beauty!

A bit of history…

The CX series of crystal mics are identical to the Shure model 710 REX. Shure rebranded them for use with many other manufacturers radio, public address and recording products. This particular model with the 80G ending was manufactured by Shure for use with the Wilcox Recordio home recording systems (see last photo) in the 1940’s and 1950’s. Before tape became widely available in the 1960’s and 70’s, the Recordio units allowed the user to make their own records at home.
