The Focusrite Clarett 8PreX is a 26-in/28-out Thunderbolt audio interface built for professional studio and production work. It features eight microphone preamps with Air mode — a circuit that models the character of Focusrite's ISA transformer-based preamps — alongside two front-panel JFET instrument inputs and six rear line inputs. On the output side there are ten balanced line outputs plus two dedicated monitor outputs. Digital connectivity is equally comprehensive, with sixteen channels of ADAT I/O across two optical input and two optical output ports, stereo S/PDIF via both RCA and optical, MIDI In/Out on 5-pin DIN connectors, and Word Clock on BNC. Thunderbolt connectivity keeps roundtrip latency under 1 ms, while the converters run at up to 24-bit/192 kHz with a real-world dynamic range of 119 dB. The unit fits a 2RU rack chassis and ships with Focusrite Control mixer software plus a bundle of 64-bit AAX, AU, and VST plugins including the Red 2, Red 3, and Softube Time and Tone Pack.
