The real deal from late 1965 / early 1966.
Here is a seriously rare 100% original Fender Electric XII in factory Black finish — one of the coolest and hardest-to-find custom color examples of Fender’s legendary 12-string electric.
This one has all the right mid-60s Fender magic: dot inlays, the iconic hockey-stick headstock, split Electric XII pickups, individual 12-string bridge saddles and that unmistakable wide, bright, articulate sound. Big 60s jangle, but with a darker and meaner custom color look.
The neck is stamped 12 NOV 65 B, dating it to November 1965. Both pots are dated 304-6545, meaning the 45th week of 1965, perfectly consistent with late 1965 production.
The guitar weighs 3.844 kg / 8.47 lbs — approx. 8 lbs 7.6 oz — and feels nicely balanced for a vintage 12-string.
Condition-wise, this is a real vintage guitar with honest signs of use. There are dings, scratches, small chips and normal vintage wear throughout. A previous owner has darkened/blended in a few of the small dings on the black finish so they are less visible. The guitar still presents beautifully and has the right vintage patina — not overly clean, not fake-looking, just a proper nearly 60-year-old custom color Fender with character.
Factory Black Electric XIIs do not show up often, especially in 100% original condition with this kind of look and date consistency. A very cool collector-grade piece that also happens to be a fantastic player.
