This‘s an Akai M9 stereo solid state preamp. The unit was working before separating it from the tape head. Just to be clear one of the small capacitors from the power supply got burnt while i was testing the unit. I saw the magic smoke and shut off the unit immediately. I plugged a dynamic mic and got some audio through the mic input and the output using my headphone. The burnt capacitor Is the one circle on the picture to be specific. I attempt to power up the unit again after to see if it was still functioning and it did power up. For those that don’t know, the M9 preamps are not like the ones in the M6,M7,M8 that can be use as standalone pre when removing the blocks from the tape section. In order to use the M9 pre as a standalone you’ll have to do some mods because the M9 pre doesn’t even power up without the tape head being connected to the preamps. Now if you’re incline and have the knowledge on working with vintage audio gear you’ll eventually figure something out to power this thing. i do have the pots for the preamp, or at least some of them.
