Vintage Shure 556C Fatboy Microphone, 1940's, original element, w/cable-stand

     Shure's "data sheet" cites the Model 556 as "especially constructed and tested to meet the requirements of the broadcast studio, and may also be used for high-quality recording, public address, and similar applications. The instrument is unusually rugged and is practically immune to the effects of moisture, temperature and mechanical vibration."

     This Shure 556C shows  very light signs of use/age, but no bent or broken ribs...very clean overall with nice sheen on the finish. The original front screen silk was torn, and has been replaced with new black felt...the rear silk screen is still original. This mic functions well with its original factory dynamic element, but note that the audio profile is midrange dominant with some bass roll-off. (If you listen to early Elvis recordings, they have that similar profile on his vocals.) (Check out the voice sample recorded on this mic in the listing video.                                         This model has the shock mount to help reduce desk-top vibrations. The sale includes the proper pigtail cable hardwired to new short pigtail with male XLR plug. Just add your XLR extension cable and you're all set. The heavily-weighted desk stand is included. The mic threads are in good shape in case you want to mount the mic on a floor stand instead.
