Up for sale, a 1968 Gibson Super Medalist in exceptional, near mint condition and in perfect working order. This is as clean and uncommon of a Gibson amp as you're ever likely to find, boasting a pair of minty Jensen C12NS 12" speakers, two channels, and footswitchable Reverb and Tremolo. Pushing a modest 20 watts through a pair of 6V6 power tubes, the Super Medalist has the smooth and warm midrange character for which the 6V6 is known, and the Jensen speakers provide a surprising amount of clean headroom before the amp cascades into tube saturated overdrive. The reverb tank is vertically mounted and works in the same fashion as a Fender, with a two-spring design that provides plenty of splash and decay. All in all, the Super Medalist is a visually imposing and great sounding vintage Gibson amp, and a very short lived model!
The faceplate is clean as can be, with oversized knobs that have numbered, transparent skirts, and large indicators for the Tremolo and Reverb that look more akin to muscle car taillights. The tube chart is mint as well and present on the inside of the cabinet. The Jensen speakers supplied for this amplifier are a particularly rare variety, with the N designation noting the speakers' 50 watt output, but also the S suffix for the shallow speaker frame, used when cabinet depth was a consideration. The frames show almost no wear and the Jensen labels look practically new.
The black tolex, black grillcloth and metal aluminum trim are all extremely clean, and as the photos show, the amp exhibits no notable cosmetic wear. Stocked with NOS tubes (likely the original factory compliment) and still operating exactly as it should, the Super Medalist will look great on stage and sound just as good for gigging or studio work.
The original two-button footswitch is included.
