The SoftStep 3 is a programmable MIDI foot controller featuring 10 gesture-sensitive pads that detect pressure and position in 3D (X, Y, and Z axes), allowing expressive real-time control over effects parameters. It can send MIDI Notes, CCs, and Program Change messages.
Connectivity-wise, it’s notably well-equipped: USB-C for MIDI over USB and power, TRS MIDI Out for connecting to hardware synths, two CV outputs for Eurorack/modular rigs, and a 3.5mm expression pedal input. It comes with a soft bag, USB cable, and 3.5mm adapter.
It’s designed and sold by Muse Kinetics (formerly Keith McMillen Instruments) at $369, and uses their proprietary smart fabric sensor technology — a carbon nanoparticle-infused felted material that gives the pads their sensitivity and durability.
