Fender did not invent the solid-body electric guitar, but they no doubt made it commercially successful. Since its introduction as the Broadcaster in 1950, the Fender Telecaster has remained largely true to its original design. This 2018 Player Series Telecaster delivers a true Telecaster experience at a great price.
The Player Alnico 5 pickups are no slouch, and the neck pickup has a lovely, round, bell-like tone that epitomizes a great Tele neck pickup. Play it hard and, like any Tele neck pickup, it will compress a little, but with some restraint it offers plenty of nuance. The bridge pickup has the signature Tele twang but is remarkably free of the high-end iciness that plagues some Telecasters. Overall, this guitar nails classic Tele tones.
Other nice touches include a six-saddle, edgeless bridge for comfortable play and improved intonation, plus a top-adjust truss rod for easy maintenance. Instead of rosewood, the fretboard is Pau Ferro, a South American hardwood that became popular when rosewood supplies were restricted during this period.
Fender guitars from Ensenada have a reputation for value and very good build quality. This 2018 Player Tele checks all the right boxes and is a great example of the breed.
Excellent-condition guitar with no chips, dings, dents, or fret wear. All guitars include a pro setup and setup checklist.
