During the guitar boom of the 1960's, a myriad of brands struck while the iron was hot. Sweden's Goya would become the export brand for most of the guitars produced by Levin - and while *most* of the instruments were fairly budget friendly acoustics, many players became fascinated with their not too often seen electric instruments. The model 107, like this example, features some very nice appointments, and features for the savvy players.
The model 107 is a laminate build archtop electric with a bolt on neck - seen here in the cherry burst finish. This one is in great playing condition with simple cosmetic issues, common to these guitars with old laminate construction - notably the finish cracks around the side of the instrument as well as the top near the control covers.
The body is designed with a 16 3/8" lower bout, with a thin depth of 1 7/8", with a florentine cutaway for upper register access. Where this guitar shines is in its electronics configuration, with pickup configurations selectable by buttons north of the 6th string. One can combine each treble and bass coil to mix and match as they choose. Fixed tone capacitors are selectable near the jack labeled "Lo Med Hi" for how much roll off one might desire, the only knob on the guitar for the instruments master volume. It is equipped with a nice long tremolo arm, which feels quite like a Bigsby, holding its tune well over its simple bridge design.
The bolt on neck is designed with a Gibson-esque 24.75" scale length, and 1 11/16" nut width. The neck appears to be made of maple with a rosewood center strip, the fingerboard is fully bound and made of rosewood - hosting block MOP inlay. The neck plays nice and speedy, with low action measuring 5/64" in height at the twelfth fret of the sixth string, and 4/64" on the first - with plenty of room for further adjustment at the thumb screws on the bridge. The neck is very straight with a functional truss rod, the frets showing only mild wear mainly on the third string nearest the open position - but nothing that affects playability.
Includes chipboard case.
