It may look unusual but the drum is fully functional, tunes up without issue, and sounds great. The shell is in round (believe or not), it has no missing or broken pieces, no bent tension rods or warped hoops, and the bearing edges are in great shape and have no dings or dents. There is one lug that has a small scratch on it.
Features a 3mm aluminum shell with hybrid bearing edges like a Dunnett snare drum. 6 lugs top and bottom with 3mm black chrome triple flange hoops, and DW Mag Throwoff and 5 Position butt plate; also comes with fresh heads. The finish is raw aluminum.
Aluminum produces a woody, fat, and dry note. The drum's tuning range is wide and it will find itself at home in any genre of music. Tuned low you get fat beefy thud that does the vintage snare thing really well. The medium range covers most bases with a pleasing and throaty tone and crack, and the high tuning isn't annoyingly bright or ringy, and will give you all the cut and articulation you need with a depth and bottom end that isn't found in shallower snare drums.
I hammered the shell myself from the inside which it why it has a peculiar look. The idea was to drop the pitch of the drum by increasing the surface area, and it worked; it essentially has the body and depth of a 14" drum combined with the tight sound and tension of a 13" drum.
