This 2022 Randy Wood 2-point mandolin is a monster instrument – as most of Randy’s mandolins and guitars are! Check out the included demo video.
The mandolin has a sweet “bell” tone but can also really bark when you dig in. Randy has been building for many decades, and it’s awesome to see he is still turning out world-class instruments like this one. I’m not always drawn to blonde finishes on mandolins, but the darker golden/amber hue on this mandolin is one of the absolute best non-sunburst mando finishes I’ve ever seen. It reminds me of a well-aged vintage guitar!
The nut width is 1 3/32”, and the fretboard features a slight radius. The pickguard was added by the original owner, and the custom-engraved James tailpiece was a special order – it looks fantastic! Overall, there is some minor surface wear and finish crazing, but there is essentially no fretwear, and no structural issues to speak of.
This mandolin sold new for $6,800; the asking price here is $5,900 (lower on other forums) plus shipping. Comes in a Crossrock case.
