Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.
You are looking at a unique and older 1950's era Astatic JT-30 model crystal microphone made in Conneaut, Ohio and it comes complete with the original E6G model detachable desk stand shown in which to display as well as a short cable that's properly wired.
Pic # 2 shows this very model in an old Astatic late 1950's / 60's era mic advertisement. Astatic built this particular mic for about 20 years starting in the early 1950's.
It should be noted right away that this mic comes with an original crystal element but it has been tested and it no longer works. This should be used for display, prop or repair purposes only. Again, the mic is properly wired however so if you replace the element with a good working crystal unit or Shure C.M or C.R element...you'll have an excellent working mic.
This will be an ideal mic for prop purposes on any T.V series, movie or theater type work.
This JT-30 mic was originally intended for home recording and general broadcasting purposes but again, happens to make a fantastic harp mic these days due to it's lite weight and smaller size. Easy to grip and cup in the hand. It's about the size of a tangerine.
This earlier JT-30 has the thick riveted metal badge as where the 1960's and later models had the glued on thin aluminum badge.
The all metal body with original silver hammered painted finish shows just typical lite wear on the mics head in the form of a few scratches here and there but free of any dents or engravings. The front chrome grill looks very nice with zero dents, odors or pitting and the inner cloth screen is free of any rips or holes. Mic has all original screws. I would give it a very conservative 7 + on a scale of 1 - 10 physically speaking though others might rate it higher.
This JT-30 will screw onto any desk or floor stand you might be using though an Astatic stand is provided.
The stand is an original 1950's era Astatic brand E6G desk stand.
This model was a detachable desk stand that has a painted aluminum base with detachable painted wooden handle allowing the user of the mic to quickly release the mic attached and walk around using the handle to support the mic with the twist of the handle.
This design was very practical for it's time as very few people actually held those older mics in their hand. It was considered taboo so the mic stand handle was a more civilized and practical option.
The stands riser seats on the base via a small hole where the riser sits. There is plenty of tension once applied. Easy to remove once twisted half way and lifted upwards.
The top wooden riser has the black painted finish and looks very good with just small wear here and there on the painted finish while the bottom painted aluminum base shows just lite wear but still very nice. Please let the detailed pics be your guide. The stand has the 3 original rubber pads and they are in excellent shape. Stand is appx 6 inches tall X 5 inches wide. With mic on top it's appx 8 1/2 inches tall.
