Beautiful old German 4/4 Violin Jacobus Hornsteiner 1936 - Roth Workshop. Professionally set up and ready to play with brand new strings.
This violin is in remarkable condition for its age. Inspection (with an endoscope camera) of the interior shows no repairs to the top, back or sides, and no other repairs have been done to any other part of the instrument that I can see.
Stunning looking violin with great tone. These have been listed by many high-end auction houses as "made in the Ernst Heinrich Roth shop" I am not sure if this is accurate, but it seems to be common to call these as such.
Jacobus Hornsteiner was a name used by the Roth firm in the 1920’s – 1940’s to sell instruments to different competing violin shops that were selling instruments in close proximity to each other. E. H. Roth II came to NY to manage the Simson violin dept. Roth and another partner bought that company and later moved it to Cleveland. Roth joined Simson and Frey in 1922.
