Martin / 1967 D-28
"A legendary instrument in folk music history"
The D-28, born in 1931 and named after the British battleship "Dreadnought,"
More than 90 years later, it remains a legendary instrument used by many artists today, undergoing various minor changes along the way.
The Dreadnought is the size that Martin popularized as the quintessential folk guitar.
Its powerful sound, derived from its size, has been a favorite in many folk songs.
The "28" in the model number indicates that the sides and back are made of rosewood; Brazilian rosewood was used in the past.
From the late 1960s, due to a decrease in available wood, it was changed to Indian rosewood.
This instrument uses the original Brazilian rosewood, resulting in a sweet yet clear tone.
The rounded headstock is fitted with Grover tuners (commonly known as "milk bottle" tuners).
Compared to open-back tuners, the added weight to the headstock may contribute to the thicker sound.
The voluted neck has a gentle V-shape, making it easy to access chords, and has been used in folk music centered on strumming.
Also, 1967 was the year of the transition from T-bar rods to square rods, but this particular instrument is a rare example of a T-bar rod from before that transition.
The sound produced by this instrument, which uses Sitka spruce and Brazilian rosewood, will make you think, "That's the sound I heard in those folk songs!"
The bright, smooth, and mellow sound that makes strumming a joy is amplified by the dreadnought-sized body, enveloping it in rich harmonics that will captivate both the player and the listener.
Why not experience the sound you've always dreamed of?
