Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.
You are looking at a nice and rare late 1950's / early 1960's NEAT brand TM-10 model dynamic omni-directional microphone made with an all metal body, satin chrome front grill and comes with an original desk stand in which to display and short cable in which to operate.
This microphone has a classic "stick mic" appearance that's a bit on the smaller size. About the size of a Shure SM57. I honestly don't know a lot about the NEAT brand as it was an earlier Japanese company but I was told years ago that it was incorporated into Aiwa at some point. I could be absolutely wrong about that however as the label also say Onkyo and I thought that was another brand entirely? Onkyo would later go on to be a very respectable Japanese audio electrons company. Regardless, I think NEAT dropped that name around the mid 1960's but they had some really cool designs and were a quality build. The TM-10 is no different.
The TM-10 has a hi Z element that is void of bass but has strong output and has a "rockabilly" tone that could be fun for singing and will make a great HAM radio mic. It could be used for dispatch and other broadcasting purposes.
This microphone is not perfect by any means but it's pretty darn nice. The original mint green paint shows just a bit of wear on the left front side of the mic in the form of a few small paint chips but otherwise it's quite beautiful. This mic has been cleaned and tested. The original element is still inside and everything is tight. The label / badge is in very nice shape and completely legible. Front chrome gill looks incredible with zero pitting and the silk screens are free of any rips or holes. The joint mechanism has lots of tension and holds the mic in place perfectly.
The mic takes the standard Amphenol cable of that era and one is provided. It's a short example. It's soft, pliable and just 7 inches in length but I applied the quality Switchcraft male XLR end connector so that you may attach any XLR cable of choice as an extension. It's a very practical set up really.
Simply leave the short cable on at all times then attach a longer XLR cable as needed.
I would rate this microphone physically a solid 8 on a scale of 1 - 10.
MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS PART OF THIS SALE...
The painted aluminum stand is original and just as nice as the mic. As seen in the pictures provided this desk stand has very lite wear but compliments the mic nicely and gives a bit of height to work with. It makes for a very stable platform and allows the mic to ne tilted up and down as needed.
This stand has a nice chrome riser which works perfectly. You can take the mic off the stand if needed and it can be placed on a floor stand if that suits you better. Please let the detailed pics be your guide.
This desk stand with mic measures appx 8 inches tall at it's tallest setting and can be lowered to 4 inches if needed. The base is appx 3 inches wide X 4 inches deep.
Overall an easy 9 on a scale of 1 - 10. A fun piece to display or to use anywhere in the home, studio or apartment.
And as with all my vintage microphones...
