Here is a 2009 Gibson Custom Shop HB (Hand-Built) limited run '59 Reissue Les Paul. Original hardshell case, CoA book, paperwork and accessories included. Gibson Custom Shop did a very limited run of R9s to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 1959 Les Paul Standard. It's unknown exactly how many were built, but a couple different sources have claimed 59 each in a few different colors. Rust, Orange and Burgundy Burst are the ones I know of. Besides the unique finish, these also came stock with uncovered "zebra" Burstbucker 1 & 2 pickups. This one has a particularly-nice top, with a beautiful dark, chocolatey fretboard. The mahogany body has nice, straight grain, with some light ribbon figuring as an added bonus! It's very well-balanced and lightweight, at just 8.7 lb. The pickups sound great, and after owning many Custom Shop Les Pauls over the years, I think I actually prefer Burstbuckers to Custombuckers. They're full-bodied, punchy and articulate, and uncovered humbuckers seem to give you just a bit more bite and aggression compared to typical humbuckers where the cover is slightly hampering the pickups' magnetic field. If you like humbuckers with fast, snappy response, and a little more presence and cut, you'll love these! All in all, this is a phenomenal Les Paul of the highest caliber, with everything you want from an outstanding R9: unique color, comfortable neck profile, dark rosewood fretboard, nicely-balanced pickups, great top, all in a lightweight package! Here are the highlights:
- Limited run "Light Burgundy Burst" Gloss finish.
- All original, including the original case, paperwork and accessories.
- 8.7 lb. Solid mahogany body w/ no weight relief.
- Nicely-figured top.
- Uncovered "Zebra" Burstbucker 1 & 2 pickups.
- Chunky-C neck profile w/ depth measurements of .91" and 1.00" @ the 1st & 12th frets.
- Dark rosewood board w/ medium-jumbo frets.
Condition: This guitar is in fantastic, all-original condition, hardly showing any play wear or even light general use. The frets are nearly perfect with no notable wear, and feel great to play on. It's honestly hard to tell that they've ever been played on at all; the crowns still look almost factory fresh. As far as the rest of the guitar goes, there isn't much to mention. Please note that this is a "Gloss"-finished guitar, and not "VOS". As with any gloss finish, you'll see some ultra-light surface swirling and micro-scuffing, but no notable scratches, nicks or dings from play wear. This guitar was obviously taken great care of and kept exceptionally-clean. It has still never been drilled for a pickguard (which is how it originally left Gibson Custom Shop), but the original one is included. There is one very tiny dimple in the clear coat on the back of the body, next to the control cavity cover, and the knobs show some internal cracking (which always seems to happen eventually since they're so fragile). Other than this, there isn't anything I can find worth noting even after a close, critical inspection. If you're after a clean R9 in a unique color that truly plays and sounds as good as it looks, this one will not let you down!
*Note - Upon receiving the guitar, please let it acclimate to room temperature before opening the case and removing it. It's especially important with nitro-finished guitars to prevent lacquer checking/cracking. As always, when a guitar is being shipped to an area with a different climate, it's best to let it settle in for a few days before having any necessary setup adjustments made (if any) by a competent tech to fit your personal preference.
Please message me with any questions or concerns before submitting offers and/or payment and I will be happy to help. This guitar will be packaged extremely well using a heavy duty box and plenty of packing material to ensure it's safety during transit. It will also be insured for the full value. Signature required upon delivery. Sold as-is, no returns. Thank you!
