There I was on Facebook, doom-scrolling, and somewhere between grocery store socialism and throwback challenges — you know, like “name a song from your high school dance,” designed specifically to date your old ass — it hit me. Every song I think of involves metal. You know, back before songs had messages, hidden agendas, or whatever the kids nowadays listen to: EDM /Mumble Rap. Is that even artistry?
No doubt I’m officially a relic of a vanquished America, back when MTV actually played music videos instead of whatever psychological warfare experiment it eventually became. The Summer of ’89 indeed. And how's that, Butch?
Can I go back to when I was the winner?
Way before the rain came
And washed away the sinners.
Back when everyone was something,
And nothing was done right or wrong.
Exactly. Back when I was a winner. And “nothing was done right or wrong?” Yeah, no — you could actually speak your mind without fear of being canceled.
Now back to my grandfather speech. Back in my day, having a Marshall and what you see before you was, without question, the definition of being a winner. And what say's heavy metal love quite like this? "Lee, dude, buddy, chieftain, like I got all day to reminisce with you, get on with already." I'm getting there, calm down.
As for this? These in 1983? $1,800. In today’s money? Roughly $5,700. And just like those, this one was handcrafted by Mike Shannon himself. Features? Oh, I’m getting there.
Mike Shannon Masterbuilt. Platinum Pink. Sharkfin inlays. Seymour Duncans. Neck-through construction. And yes, an original-style German Floyd Rose with brass fine tuners because anything less would’ve gotten you laughed out of 1987.
As for these Duncan pickups? They sound like your front door getting kicked in while you’re reaching for your gun in the middle of the night.
Condition? Think new.
Case? Original.
Paperwork? Naturally, including the signed Mike Shannon certificate.
Setup? Of course. Do I look barbaric?
People, this guitar just speaks metal. Yeah, maybe not the kind of metal that burns down churches in Norway, but metal nonetheless — the same pedigree without catching a felony charge.
Now let me drop the needle back down for a little more from Butch Walker. Take it away, boys:
Went back to the woods
Where I hid all my goods.
In a rusted-out Cadillac door.
We all get nostalgic
And fall for the hat trick.
Of thinking it’ll be like before.
P.S. I added the song for a little ambience.
