Parson’s Guitars Bat 2020 - Sea Bat

For your consideration is a truly unique 2020 Randy Parsons BAT, built by luthier Randy Parsons of Parsons Guitars and dubbed the “Sea Bat.” Parsons’ BAT is one of his most distinctive boutique designs: a dark, gothic, hand-built electric that sits somewhere between high-end art guitar, custom hot rod, and serious stage instrument. Parsons is known for theatrical, highly individualized guitars built for major players including Jack White, Jimmy Page, Peter Frampton, Joe Perry, Henri Cash, and others, and this Sea Bat carries that same custom-shop-meets-folk-art sensibility into full maritime-mythic territory. This particular guitar was reportedly built using teak floorboards from the USS North Carolina, giving it a remarkable historical connection as well as a one-of-a-kind visual and material story. The instrument features what I believe are custom TV Jones pickups, along with beautiful abalone inlays of bat rays and Poseidon’s trident at the 12th fret marker. The whole guitar has the feeling of some deep-sea creature—part bat ray, part Kraken—summoned to life through Parsons’ ritual luthiery. You simply do not see many guitars like this.
