A comprehensive analysis of Gibson J-45s from the 1940s to the 1960s. This is truly a deconstruction guide to the J-45!
=============================================================
Gibson / 1960 J-45
"A valuable instrument that allows you to enjoy the changes that come with age"
The J-45 is now an extremely popular Gibson acoustic guitar that needs no introduction.
The 1960 model is a rare example that underwent various specification changes.
—Beautiful Black and Yellow Gradient
The spruce body is finished with a near-three-tone coloring.
Over time, the reddish tones fade, beautifully revealing a black-to-yellow gradient.
The black has slightly faded, revealing a beautiful, translucent brown-like coloring.
The sides and back are made of tightly grained mahogany.
Finished in a natural color that doesn't detract from the beauty of the wood.
This material creates the tight and powerful sound characteristic of the J-45.
The fretboard is made of rosewood with a beautiful grain.
The neck is made of mahogany and has a comfortably sleek neck shape for a pleasant grip.
The upper belly bridge features a ceramic adjustable bridge, which has been standard equipment since 1960.
The unique brilliance and airy sound are characteristic of the adjustable bridge.
The pickguard specification changed from small to large starting in 1955.
Therefore, this instrument is also fitted with a large pickguard.
It has a beautiful, glossy finish.
The Gibson silkscreen logo is affixed to the headstock, enhancing the J-45's distinctive look.
A characteristic feature of this period is the 17-degree headstock angle, wouldn't you say?
The tuning pegs are KLUSON 3-in-line tuners with white buttons.
Although the tuning pegs have been replaced, the previous owner's attention to detail is evident in their choice of the same type to maintain the original appearance.
This instrument has had few major crack repairs and, despite being nearly 70 years old, remains in remarkably good condition.
Its powerful yet straight-projecting sound is a defining characteristic, making it incredibly enjoyable to strum.
