Vintage 1997 Made in Mexico Squier Standard Stratocaster in an incredible Lake Placid Blue finish. In great condition for a nearly 30 year old guitar with signs of light use and a few stickers that can easily be removed. The Squier headstock decal is a little cloudy and bubbling but it’s still intact and easily readable.
The 1997 Made in Mexico (MIM) Squier Stratocaster—often part of the beloved transitional "Squier Series" or "Black Label" line—is highly regarded for its USA-spec neck profiles, quality hardware, and accessible price point.
History and Construction:
Produced in the Ensenada factory, these models are famous among guitarists for utilizing leftover USA factory standard Stratocaster bodies and necks. These parts were then assembled with Mexican pickups and Asian hardware.
- Body: Generally solid alder or poplar.
- Neck: Features a maple neck with either a maple or rosewood fretboard. They are celebrated for their comfortable, "broken-in" feel.
- Headstock: Identified by either a standard Squier logo, or the "Fender Squier Series" logo (which features a large "Fender" and a smaller "Squier Series" badge).
Value and Upgrades:
Because of their solid foundations, many players purchase these guitars as modding platforms. Upgrading elements like the capacitors, volume/tone pots, or the pickups can elevate these instruments to sound as good as, or better than, higher-end American or modern Player series models.
