1979 Fender Stratocaster 25th Anniversary edition in very good condition and in perfect working order. A real Relic Look Made Naturally.
Exceptional playing and sounding 25th anniversary USA made Fender Stratocaster. Besides playing and sounding wonderful it's got some great aging, white finish turned yellow, with chips and cracking from the original finish. 4 Bolt Maple Neck. Complete with the original hardshell case. Produced in limited quantities to commemorate the 25th year of Stratocaster production, this was Fender’s first-ever anniversary model instrument. Notably rarer than the Porsche Silver iteration of this model, the Pearl White finished Anniversary Strats like the one seen here were recalled in many cases due to broad finish issues some exhibited on this example. And while 1979 was the Stratocaster's 25th anniversary year, all date codes cross over into 1980.
The first 500 or so instruments produced were finished in Pearl White. However, due to the instability of the finish and the checking that resulted, many were recalled and re-finished in Porsche Silver (though Fender refers to it as "25th Anniversary Stratocaster Silver"), the color that was used in the rest of the production run.The 1979 Anniversary Stratocaster is significant for a number of reasons. It represents both a look behind and a look ahead for Fender. Features of note include: reversion to the four bolt neck plate; abandonment of the "bullet" truss rod adjustment in favor of the truss rod adjustment at the body end of the neck; and, the first use of "locking tuners" in a Fender guitar (Sperzel).
Featuring an ash body and one-piece maple neck, this guitar also saw a return to the four-bolt neck plate and traditional truss rod adjustment at the neck heel, with the same tonewoods as its 1954 forbearer. The guitar weighs 9lbs and the natural sustain combined with the tonewood complement ensures plenty of note definition and punch. The trio of gray bobbin flat pole pickups deliver spank and cut in the bridge position, with more round, bell-like tonalities when toggled to the neck. The five-way switch provides easy access to the "in-between" settings for plenty of thinned-out cut and spank.
