The MXR Distortion + (Block Logo) is a legendary late-1970s to early-1980s distortion pedal. Key Features and Specifications

• Era: Transitioned from the cursive "Script" logo to the bold "Block" logo around 1977, running into the mid-1980s.
• Controls: Only two knobs: Output (master volume) and Distortion (op-amp gain).
• Circuit: Built around the classic CA741 op-amp. It relies on germanium diodes to produce an asymmetrical clipping, resulting in a warm, amp-like, fuzzy overdrive.
• Tone: Because it lacks a dedicated tone knob, it is famous for its natural mid-range "hump". It is heavily used as a clean boost to push the front-end of a tube amp into heavy saturation, rather than as a standalone distortion box.
• Design Changes: Early Block models featured the unpainted "Bud box" enclosures, while later iterations (early 80s) added an LED and an AC power jack.
