We are thrilled to offer this beautiful 1968 Gibson Dove. Known for its striking aesthetics and powerful projection, the Dove is one of Gibson's most iconic square-shoulder dreadnoughts. This particular example is in great overall shape and features one of the most stunning, highly figured maple backs we have ever seen. With a few thoughtful upgrades and a very friendly price point, this is an incredible opportunity to get your hands on a legendary vintage Gibson acoustic that is built to be played and gigged.

The Tone: Pure Gibson Magic

Sonically, this guitar is an absolute cannon. While it shares the iconic square-shoulder DNA of its cousin, the Hummingbird, the Dove’s maple back and sides give it a uniquely bold, crisp, and articulate voice. The low end is incredibly tight and focused, never getting muddy, while the highs sing with a brilliant, shimmering clarity. Thanks to the bridge upgrade (detailed below), the volume, resonance, and sustain on this guitar are off the charts. It is a fantastic strummer that cuts right through a mix, but it is equally rewarding for articulate flatpicking.

Neck & Playability

This Dove is a phenomenal playing acoustic instrument. It has been professionally set up and plays effortlessly with fast, low action.

  • Nut: The nut has been replaced to ensure optimal string spacing and tuning stability.
  • Playability: Whether you're playing open chords or moving up the neck, the guitar plays cleanly and comfortably.

Condition & Tasteful Modifications

This guitar has been well cared for and boasts a few key modifications that make it a vastly superior instrument for the modern player:

  • Fixed Bridge Upgrade: The original, heavy adjustable bridge system has been beautifully and tastefully modified into a traditional fixed bridge with a thin bone saddle. The work was expertly done and looks factory-clean. In our opinion, this is a massive upgrade—it significantly improves the structural stability of the top and provides vastly superior tonal transfer and resonance compared to the original '60s adjustable setups.
  • Electronics: A passive endpin pickup has been very cleanly installed. While the exact make of the pickup is unknown, it sounds fantastic plugged in, making this vintage acoustic perfectly stage-ready right out of the case.
  • Handmade Pickguard: As is very common with this era, the original celluloid pickguard naturally deteriorated over time. It has been replaced with an exceptionally high-quality, handmade, exact-spec reproduction. It is incredibly accurate—truly the best aftermarket Dove pickguard you can buy—and it looks fantastic.
  • Stunning Maple Woodgrain: We cannot overstate how gorgeous the maple back on this guitar is; it is highly figured and visually captivating.
  • Headstock Note: There is a very slight, minor crack on the side of the headstock. It is completely stable, rock-solid, and does not affect the tuning stability or structural integrity of the guitar.
