Rare 4-string bass from Ovation , Magnum II model, 'Made in USA', in red. This Magnum II (version: 1262-2) was manufactured between 1974 and 1979. The bass is original with a great sound, balanced and at the same time powerful and incredible sustain.

The Magnum II model revolutionized what was done until then, having been a pioneer in the world of electric basses:

-It was the 1st bass designed with an active system (it has two 9v batteries)

-1st bass with the use of carbon graphite in the neck (three strips), for reinforcement.

-1st with a 3-band graphic equalizer

-1st to have a pickup with individual coils allowing you to adjust the volume of each string individually.

-1st to have a lever, which when activated muted the strings (sustain)

-1st to have a fully adjustable height bridge (in aluminum).

Ovation was a brand created by aerospace engineers and technicians. The parent company, Kaman Corporation, manufactured helicopters, among other things. They revolutionized the electric bass with their ideas and innovations in terms of construction, access to new materials, electronics, and top-quality finishes.

The body is constructed from a single piece of Honduran mahogany, as is the neck (also one piece) in mahogany. The fretboard is made of ebony (an exclusive and rare wood with very special characteristics) with 20 frets. It has a great neck, fast and comfortable (C-shape), designed with innovative technology, using graphite for greater stability/reinforcement and longevity! The frets are like new.

The sound of the pickups is very good and powerful. The neck pickup, has 4 coils, and each one is independent and has its own volume, which allows you to adjust the volume of each string. This allows you to remove/mitigate the volume difference between the 1st and 4th strings.

The aluminum frame where the two pickups are fixed was also designed as a support for the hand/thumb.

It has 3-band equalization for bass (approx 40Hz to 350Hz), mid (400Hz) and treble frequencies (approx 350Hz to 5-5kHz) with an amplitude of +12 and -12db. Highly innovative was the addition of an amplitude/volume leveler next to each band. That is, increasing the level of a certain band (for example, bass) will not imply an increase in the final volume (which happens in other instruments), a clear innovation!

This entire system is active, powered by two 9v batteries, only activated when the jack is inserted. The entire interior of the bass (cavities) was lined with metal foil and connected to ground for effective shielding against external noise. The entire active preamp system has been revised and maintained.

This bass became famous among bassists such as Roger Waters (Pink Floyd, especially in the studio!), Ross Valory (Journey), Kelly Groucutt (ELO-Electric Light Orchestra), Kim Gordon (Sonic Youth), Jah Wobble (PiL-Public Image Ltd), (Magazine), among others.
