This Selmer USA CL300 Bb clarinet serial number 13906 is an upper-entry level American-made student clarinet produced during the late 1990s into the early 2000s as part of Selmer USAβs educational clarinet lineup. Designed specifically for school band use, beginner/intermediate educational environments, and long-term durability, the CL300 emphasizes stable response, mechanical reliability, and practical serviceability.
πΆ This particular example appears to be an earlier CL300 variant featuring the distinctive high-gloss composite finish rather than the more common matte βwood-lookβ finish seen on many later examples. It is an unusually clean and desirable example of the model and one of the better-preserved CL300 clarinets we have encountered.
Body & Condition
Constructed from durable composite/resin material, the body remains in great overall condition with minimal blemishes, scratches, nicks, and other signs of normal wear and tear. The glossy black finish presents exceptionally well and gives the instrument a more refined appearance than many typical student clarinets from this era.
The bore is tapered, measuring approximately 14.8 mm (0.583") at the entry and 14.6 mm (0.575") at the exit. Included is the original 64.5 mm barrel.
The relatively controlled bore design contributes to stable intonation, focused tone center, moderate resistance, easier control for developing players, and cleaner upper-register response.
The body construction is highly durable and climate-resistant, making the instrument especially well suited for student use, outdoor playing, marching environments, travel, and general long-term reliability.

Additional Notes
π΅ The CL300 occupies a respectable position among American-made student clarinets and is generally regarded as mechanically sturdy, durable, and acoustically refined for an educational instrument.
The tapered bore design produces a centered, moderately focused response with clear articulation, stable pitch, moderate resistance, and reasonably even tonal balance across registers. The overall tonal character is clear, direct, and practical for ensemble and educational settings.
The keywork geometry and straightforward mechanism design also make the CL300 relatively technician-friendly for servicing and long-term maintenance.
This earlier high-gloss version appears less common than the later matte/satin-finish CL300 clarinets and gives the instrument a more visually refined presentation while retaining the practical durability expected from Selmer USA educational instruments.
