Gibson / 1955 J-45

Comment from the person in charge: Inoue

The Gibson J-45, a representative masterpiece, appeared in 1942.

With its round-shouldered body shape and a body made of spruce and mahogany, its bright yet deep bass tones are perfectly suited for vocal music.

The J-45 is also known as "The Workhorse," a name given to this guitar because of its versatility, excelling not only on stage but also in recording and street performances.

From Small Pickguard to Large Pickguard

The 1955 J-45 saw a change from the small pickguard used since its introduction to a large pickguard.
The sunburst color combined with the thin tortoiseshell pickguard enhances its cool look.

Scalloped X-Bracing

Scalloped X-bracing is used. Since the transition to non-scalloped X-bracing occurred around this time, the combination of a large pickguard and scalloped X-bracing is a specification that symbolizes 1955.

Round Shoulder Body

The top is made of Sitka spruce and finished in a two-tone brown sunburst color.
The binding has aged to an amber color, and combined with the weather checking, it enhances the vintage feel.

Rosette

The rosette surrounding the soundhole is a so-called "one-ring" design, wrapped in white/black/white celluloid.

This design was used until around 1962.

Bridge

The upper belly bridge was introduced around 1949.

Around 1953, the specifications changed from a long saddle to a short saddle, transforming it into the classic, representative model.

Fingerboard

The fingerboard, made of dark rosewood, features dot position markers.

-Mahogany that creates the J-45 sound

Mahogany is used for the sides and back.

The beautiful grain suggests that high-quality wood was used.

This is one of the factors that produces the warm yet crisp and clear sound characteristic of the J-45.

-Thick Neck

The mahogany neck has a comfortable thickness and shape.

It doesn't feel difficult to grip, and the grip is comfortable even during fast chord changes.

The neck's paint has peeled off due to years of use, but it appears to have been over-lacquered, possibly to prevent further peeling.

-Headstock

The gently flaring headstock shape features the Gibson silkscreen logo.

A distinctive feature is that the truss rod cover is mounted 5cm higher.

Even among 1955 models, some have the truss rod cover mounted lower.

-Tuning Machines

The tuners have been replaced from single-line 3-in-line pegs with the KLUSON DELUXE engraving to single-line tuners without the engraving.
