Custom-built active binaural stereo microphone made using a mannequin head platform with internally powered microphone circuits running on standard 48V phantom power.

This is not just a novelty piece — it is a genuinely useful and great sounding spatial/ambient recording microphone. It was designed specifically for immersive stereo recordings and excels at capturing natural room depth and realism.

Sound-wise, this microphone works especially well as a room microphone. Acoustic instruments sound very open and dimensional through it. It also works well as a drum room mic, although very loud sources may benefit from external attenuation/padding depending on preamp gain staging.

Cosmetically it has a very cool handmade “broadcast lab prototype” / experimental studio aesthetic and makes a great conversation piece in a studio while also being fully functional.
