Ibanez PL1770 Pro Line in Black Early Production (Dec 1985) MIJ FujiGen w/ Original Tremolo Bar & Hard Shell Case
If you’re looking for a genuine piece of Ibanez history that still plays like a modern weapon, this is it. The Pro Line PL1770 was the crown jewel of Ibanez’s lineup before the RG series took over — produced for only two years (1986–1987) and built at the legendary FujiGen Gakki factory in Nagano, Japan.
This example is special. Serial L852396 dates it to December 1985 — a first-run guitar built before the PL1770 even appeared in the 1986 catalog. Black finish is the hardest color to find on these. When PL1770s surface, they’re almost always Gold Pearl or Silver Pearl. This one is all original and unmodified.
The bolt-on maple neck is the direct ancestor of the legendary Wizard profile — slim, fast, and buttery smooth. 22 jumbo frets on a bound ebony fingerboard with abalone dot inlays. Frets show minimal wear with plenty of life left.
Pure ’80s innovation that still holds up:
∙ IBZ triple-magnet humbucker at the bridge — thick, articulate, and ready to roar
∙ Two Super 7F single coils (neck/middle) with that reversed-angle clarity
∙ The legendary Ibanez Edge double-locking tremolo — dive-bomb stable and silky smooth, knife edges are sharp
∙ 5-way pickup selector PLUS the revolutionary 5-button preset matrix — infinite tonal possibilities
∙ Push on Push off coil tap on the tone — split that bridge humbucker for even more versatility
Includes Ibanez Deluxe hardshell case and original tremolo bar.
These don’t show up often — especially in black, this early, all original.
Rare Find.
