Martin Custom Shop D-18 Adirondack #3049371 — Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar

Custom Shop Build Overview Martin D-18 Adirondack #3049371

The Martin D-18 Adirondack is a powerful take on the classic mahogany dreadnought, pairing the focused, woody voice of a traditional D-18 with the added headroom and responsiveness of an Adirondack spruce top.

This build features a solid Adirondack spruce top combined with genuine mahogany back and sides, delivering strong fundamental clarity, quick response, and exceptional dynamic range. Adirondack spruce is prized for its stiffness and power, allowing the guitar to maintain clarity even under aggressive playing.

Built with forward-shifted scalloped bracing, this guitar offers enhanced resonance, projection, and tonal openness while preserving the punch and articulation that define the D-18 platform.

Why Adirondack on a D-18 Matters

Adirondack spruce enhances the traditional mahogany dreadnought by adding power, projection, and long-term tonal development.

• Greater headroom for heavy strumming and flatpicking
• Strong, clear fundamental notes
• Tight, controlled low end
• Responsive top that continues to open up with play

This combination creates a guitar that is both immediate and dynamic, with the ability to evolve over time.

Construction & Craftsmanship

Handcrafted in Nazareth, Pennsylvania, this instrument features Martin’s traditional dovetail neck joint and solid tonewood construction to maximize resonance and long-term stability.

The forward-shifted Golden Era scalloped X-bracing allows the top to move more freely, producing enhanced bass response, sustain, and overall tonal balance.

Classic Style 18 details, including understated appointments and a clean aesthetic, keep the focus on tone and performance.

Tone & Performance

The D-18 is known for its punch, clarity, and strong midrange presence. With the addition of an Adirondack top, this version delivers increased power and dynamic range while maintaining excellent articulation.
