This used Stone Custom Drums 6.5x14" Mahogany snare drum is a rare, small-batch build with a unique tonal profile and unmistakable character. Built using what appears to be Stone’s "Super American" 9-ply construction style, this drum delivers a focused, articulate response while retaining the warmth and body typically associated with mahogany shells.
Condition & Build DetailsThis drum does not include factory labeling on the interior, but the manufacturer has confirmed that only two of these specific drums were ever produced due to the difficulty of working with this particular wood. The lugs are mounted directly to the shell, which has resulted in some cosmetic cracking and finish blemishing around the hardware contact points. Additionally, there are small visible gaps in the shell at several lug mounting points, likely from drilling during the build process.
Despite these cosmetic imperfections, the drum remains fully functional. The shell is structurally intact for performance use, and all hardware operates smoothly and reliably.
Sound & Playing FeelThis drum offers a meaty, snappy voice with a unique blend of warmth and articulation. While rooted in a mahogany tonal foundation, it has a brighter edge and increased stick definition compared to traditional vintage mahogany snares. The result is a drum that feels familiar but cuts more clearly in modern playing environments.
- Warm low-end body with controlled resonance
- Enhanced articulation and stick clarity
- Snappy response with a slightly modern edge
- Vintage-inspired character with improved projection
- Size: 6.5x14
- Shell: Mahogany (9-ply, "Super American" style construction)
- Build: Extremely limited production (only 2 made)
- Hardware: Direct-to-shell lug mounting
- Condition: Good – cosmetic cracks, finish blemishes, and visible shell gaps near lugs; fully functional
This snare is well-suited for players looking for a distinctive, character-driven drum that stands apart from standard production models. It works well in studio settings, lower-volume gigs, and situations where a unique tonal voice is preferred over a pristine cosmetic condition.
