It is a truly unique build that pairs classic dreadnought power with a rare and beautiful choice of tonewood, resulting in a guitar that stands out in both looks and sound. While a standard D-18 features mahogany back and sides, the Martin Custom Shop upgraded this model to premium Black Walnut, paired with a classic solid Spruce top. The result is a stunning natural-finish instrument with a voice all its own. Walnut bridges the tonal gap between the warm, woody midrange of mahogany and the bright, sparkling clarity of rosewood. Built in the traditional D-14 fret dreadnought shape, it offers fantastic projection, a tight low-end, and incredible note definition. The playability is smooth and effortlessly modern. Martin selected a premium 12/4 Genuine Mahogany neck and carved it into a comfortable Modified Low Oval shape. Combined with a premium Black Ebony fingerboard and a bone nut, it provides a fast, inviting feel across the entire fretboard that players of all styles will immediately appreciate. The hardware is equally top-tier, featuring a Modern Belly bridge and Grover nickel vintage-button tuners that offer rock-solid stability while maintaining an elegant, old-school aesthetic. True to the finest Custom Shop traditions, there are no unnecessary electronics or flashy distractions here—just world-class craftsmanship and pure, resonant acoustic tone.
