The Pioneer six lug drums have very good resonance because they have fewer lugs attached and the shell can vibrate more than an 8 or 10 lug drum. I find that the medium and lower tensions/ tunings sound better on my drum. I also find that using a thinner snare side head and less snares work better. The factory Pioneer had 12 snares and that or a 16 snare works well with the snare bed on these drums than a 20 or 24 wide snare. Hard to beat these drums for a 60's rock or Blues sound. Being 5 inches deep they can be really punchy.
