Born in 2008, this nearly 20-year old, square-shouldered dreadnaught is perhaps the most popular steel-string body shape in the world. But what separates this guitar from all similarly shaped instruments is the tonal clarity that is unique to Collings guitars. An ideal guitar for vocal accompaniment, it is equally at home on the bluegrass stage, readily holding its own against typically loud banjos and fiddles.
This D2H has that classic Collings voice - "shimmery highs, a punchy midrange, a tight and clean low end, and maximum headroom with a quick response." Featuring a Sitka Spruce top, East Indian Rosewood back and sides and detailing like herringbone purfling on the top, a "zipper" back strip, diamond and square MOP fingerboard inlays, an intricate rosette and a tortoise pickguard.
Constructed to be a legacy instrument, the D2H employs Sitka Spruce pre-war, scalloped x-bracing, a mortise and tenon hybrid neck joint, and a high-gloss nitrocellulose lacquer body. The neck is finished with a high-gloss polyester resin for longevity and smooth movement up and down the neck.
