You better have a seat before looking at this one. Another Custom Shop Expert masterpiece. And a Tobias Music Exclusive. Visually stunning. Tonally amazing.

A stunning new creation from the master luthiers at the Martin Custom Shop—exclusively for Tobias Music. Part of our Custom Shop Expert Series, featuring tonewoods personally selected by our team during a recent visit to the Martin factory in Nazareth, PA. The Tobias Music Custom Shop Series guitars are starting to arrive !!

This particular model turned out exceptionally well. We chose a striking set of premium Ziricote for the back and sides, paired with an outstanding premium Sinker Redwood top. Using the iconic HD-28 as our base model, we crafted a classic dreadnought body that’s truly one-of-a-kind. The unique combination of Ziricote and Sinker Redwood delivers a tone that’s refreshingly distinct—offering a clear yet warm tone with a strong voice. One of the best sounding guitars we’ve had. Pretty amazing.

A HD-28 style custom Martin guitar with Ziricote back and sides and a Sinker Redwood top offers a beautifully nuanced and responsive tonal palette. Here’s what you can expect:

Tone Profile:

Warm, Rich Overtones -

The Sinker Redwood top brings a warmth and complexity often compared to cedar, but with a bit more headroom and dynamic range. It has a rich overtone content, making it perfect for fingerstyle, strumming, and expressive melodic playing.

Deep, Clear Bass with Sparkling Highs -

Ziricote is known for its striking visual beauty and tonal qualities similar to rosewood—deep low end, clear trebles, and a slightly scooped midrange. Combined with Sinker Redwood, it adds clarity and depth to the bass response while allowing the highs to shimmer.

Balanced and Articulate -

In a dreadnought body, the projection is focused and articulate, balanced tone yet still a good amount of horsepower. The Dreadnought body highlights nuance and touch sensitivity, making it ideal for solo work and recording.

Responsive and Touch-Sensitive -

The Sinker Redwood top responds easily to a lighter touch, rewarding nuanced playing with a wide dynamic range. It may compress slightly under heavy strumming, but that’s part of its charm—ideal for expressive, emotive players.

Expect a guitar with a lush, complex tone, excellent note separation, and a balanced voice that’s well-suited for fingerstyle, strumming, and nuanced picking. The Ziricote/Sinker Redwood pairing in a dread size offers both visual elegance and tonal sophistication. This one is very nice. Your new family heirloom has arrived.
