Guild F-30R Custom Order — Rare Star Inlay, Paul Simon, Westerly-Made (1993)

This is a rare Guild F-30R built to a custom order from an authorized dealer, featuring stunning mother-of-pearl star inlays on the ebony fingerboard — the same inlay style found on Guild's top-tier models.

The F-30R has one of the most storied origins in American acoustic guitar history. In 1967, Mark Dronge — Guild's artist representative and son of founder Al Dronge — personally presented Paul Simon with a custom F-30 Special built with rosewood back and sides, an ebony fingerboard, and Grover Rotomatic tuners, replacing the standard mahogany spec. Simon played these guitars throughout his entire Simon & Garfunkel career, bringing worldwide attention to Guild's rosewood grand concert model. Regular production of the F-30R began in 1973, and this 1993 example retains the original gold Grover Rotomatic tuners — the same tuner spec as Simon's 1967 custom — a detail increasingly rare as Schaller became more common on Guild acoustics around this period.

Condition: Shows typical wear and small scratches consistent with 40+ years of age, but no cracks. There is a repaired chip on the edge of the soundhole (see red arrow in photos) — the repair has been done solidly and is stable. The neck is nearly straight with good playability. The tuners and nut and saddle appear to have been replaced at some point. Overall, this is a fine player-grade example for its age.
