I bought this unique piano miking system NEW from a dealer in the Netherlands. After some preliminary experimentation with various placements, I felt that 2 mics were enough for concert sound reinforcement, so I took 2 of the elements on a couple short tours with the Irish Tenors and really enjoyed not only the full sound of the grand piano but the ease of setup.
The mic cables are very different. They're almost like large tielines (somewhat similar to shoelaces)! Designed to effectively eliminate microphonics in the cable.
The mics all have magnetic mounts so that you don't need clamps or mic stands - the mics simply attach to the metal braces or the soundplate of the piano with no rattling and no bothering with the lid support stick. Can be used in uprights, too. And - just a thought - possibly on vibes or other instruments with metal frames on which the mics could attach??
I know this is an expensive system (believe me, I paid retail!!!), but it's a system and a sound like no other. I'm just not touring too much anymore and so I don't have the opportunity to use them as they should be used.
Comes with all 3 MATCHED mic elements and the flight case.
SN# 103.475, 103.482, and 103.488
(Sorry, I couldn't find any YouTube videos - all the ones I've seen are via Facebook)
Here's what the designers say about the P6100:
The REMIC approach to capturing the piano sound is based on a unique design featuring real pickup character combined with acoustic sound.
The inside mounting of multiple REMIC microphones ensures that the sound is picked up with the fastest phase synchronisation available in the industry.
This solution ensures the experience of the grand piano as a single sound source, both in the recorded version and the amplified version.
The REMIC P6100 Piano Microphone DUAL and TRIPLE kits are developed for upright piano and for grand piano.
The Piano Microphones are designed for studio and live productions and delivers a natural sound with clear definition.
The efficient pickup character of the microphones provides an inherent bleed suppression.
Bleed reduction from loud adjacent instruments is achieved when using the microphones with closed lid on the piano.
The REMIC Piano Microphones feature fast magnetic attachment inside the piano on the metal frame (harp).
This allows for fast and repeatable setup, which is highly valuable on busy tour travels. As there is no other miking necessary for the piano this solution is ideal for travelling, all packed in a small flight case.
