Vintage '78 Greco with Varitone switch, adds genuine tonal range, top to bottom. Similar to other Grecos I've played, fretboard binding showing signs of splitting, but nowhere near repair status and entirely stable. The bout itself is in overall outstanding condition, still some buckle rush on the back. New contact switch; fret dressing, fall, 2025, from Fretworks Chicago. Outside of the rear buckle rash, this feels like a new guitar. Neck profile feels a little chunkier than my SA-700, but not by much. Great tone on this guitar.
Period correct OHSC vintage case.
The SA 800 is built mostly to the same specs as the Gibson ES-345. Construction is sycamore (English Maple) laminate body, maple center block sandwiched between spruce, a three-piece maple neck, striped ebony fingerboard and split parallelogram inlays. Love the Ebony board on this one. Wine Red finish. PU-2 pickups are seriously cut out for jazz and blues guitar. Pups are original to the guitar, dated February 8, 1978 matching the February 1978 SN.
