This is an odd one. The story is that Carlo Greco, legendary luthier of vintage Guild fame built this body from a set of "100 year old Brazilian rosewood" he had been saving from his days at Guild. You can see in the photos where Carlo signed underneath the top. The top is 70 year old German spruce that has a super tight silky grain. If you look closely you will notice it is asymmetrical. The center strip on the back of the body is off center. Carlo was getting cataracts and arthritis so some of the trim work is sloppy too. It has a massive 18" bout just like the legendary custom jumbo Guilds he built for John Denver. This is supposedly the last body Carlo built and it sat in his shop for some time. The guy I bought it from was begging Carlo to sell the body to him so he could have it finished and Carlo finally agreed. He had a Gibson J-200 neck put on it and a J-200 pickguard and bridge. The neck has a maple shim under the fretboard it that you can notice if you look closely. The frets are like new and the setup and intonation are absolutely perfect. It plays like a dream. I bought this mostly because of the quality of the woods thinking it could not possibly sound bad.... and I was right... it sounds absolutely massive, notes just pop right out of it and ring forever but I find that I just don't like playing jumbos. The Brazilian is clearly of a higher quality than just about anything I have ever seen... it has almost purple hues to it and the figured grain is drop dead gorgeous. It has that light and airy sound that great Brazilian has... none of that heavy metallic tone that is more like Indian rosewood. This is not a guitar for the anal perfectionist. Its not perfect cosmetically, but still gorgeous to behold and it sounds like no other guitar you will ever hear.
