You are bidding on a Roland JC-120 Amplifier and R&R road case once used by Marty Willson-Piper of The Church
Here's the back story on how I acquired this amp...
Since the mid-1990s, I've been the administrator of the Seance mailing list: a mailing list for fans of the Australian band The Church and its primary members Steve Kilbey, Peter Koppes, and Marty Willson-Piper. In 1998, the band liquidated a large amount of music gear that was stored in the US, including this Roland JC-120 amplifier and accompanying R&R road case. If I remember correctly, guitarist Marty Willson-Piper played a dual amp setup with an AC30 and a JC-120 for the Starfish and Gold Afternoon Fix tours of 1988 and 1991. This is the JC-120. I had a chance to purchase the amplifier during that liquidation and it’s been my possession since.
It’s a terrific amp, it sounds good, does the chorus thing that people love, JC-120s are featured on many of my favorite albums, and it used to belong to one of my favorite bands, but in the subsequent twenty-seven years of ownership I’ve only used it on a couple of recording sessions. Most of the time it’s been sitting silent in the corner of my house. I don’t like hoarding equipment and it deserves to be used. Especially if they're a fan of the band.
The amplifier’s serial number is 868383 which dates it to January 1988. I had it serviced at the local Southern California Roland service center in 2012 and its been barely used ever since.
Channel 1’s Bass knob is missing the silver insert. The switch has a strip of tape on it labeled “REVERB.” Lastly there's a sharpie mark at the 6.5 position on Channel 2's volume knob panel. All of this happened when the amp was in The Church's possession.
As for the road case, let get the bad stuff out of the way first. The inside foam is BAD. It’s not even foam any more. All it can do now is permanently deform from when you poke at it to see how good the foam is. The rotten foam also has a smell which, fortunately, goes away when you put the lid back on. If you’re wanting to use this at all, you’ll need to scrape the old foam off and replace it.
On the other hand, while the outside of the case isn’t pristine it is certainly intact and super-strong. Every ding and scratch an authentic result of being used by a hard-working band capitalizing on a freak hit.
Apologies in advance for leaving the eventual purchaser with a restoration project on their hands, but I hope that another fan of the band would be interested in a unique item like this.
The outside case dimensions are:
25.5” / 65cm tall
33.5” / 85cm long
13.5” / 34cm wide
and sits on casters that are 5” / 12.5cm off the floor.
It’s a road case so unsurprisingly it’s HEAVY. The case weighs 62.8lbs / 28.4kg. without including a shipping box.
The amplifier itself weighs 66lbs / 30kg which brings the total combined weight to 128lbs / 58kg. which is very, very, if not impossible, to ship but if the purchaser lives in Southern California, it would be easy for me to meet up with you in person at a central location. Message me if this is a possibility.
Please note, this is sold strictly "as-is." No returns accepted.
