I am offering a Gibson SG Pro Walnut from 1971, a still manufactured in Kalamazoo, Michigan (USA), vintage model of the SG from the Norlin era, featuring a solid mahogany body (weighing just 2.97kg!), set-in mahogany neck with “C” neck profile and 39.6mm nut width, bound rosewood fingerboard with mother-of-pearl dot inlays, two original 1970s Gibson P-90 singlecoil pickups, Gibson Deluxe tuners with Keystone knobs, Tune-O-Matic bridge and Bigsby Tremolo-tailpiece in a beautiful high-gloss walnut nitro finish with gleaming chrome hardware and black pickguard in excellent player condition including brown Gibson hardshell case and professional setup with 10-gauge Elixir strings.

This hot 1971 Gibson SG Pro Walnut is a SUPER-rare SG variant from the early Norlin era, manufactured only between 1971-72 at the Kalamazoo plant. This Gibson SG Pro features a traditional solid mahogany body with the classic double-horned contour, which, beneath the walnut nitro finish, exhibits excellent natural resonance despite a light weight of just 2.97 kg. Featuring a set-neck construction, the mahogany neck is set into the body and, thanks to its slim “C” neck profile combined with the short 628mm scale length and 39.6mm nut width, offers excellent playability across all 22 medium frets.

Sonically, the two original Gibson P-90 singlecoils are the heart of this instrument. They deliver the unmistakable blend of raw attack, transparent dynamics, and warm vintage character. Less Angus Young, more Billy Gibbons—from bell-like cleans to slightly compressed blues tones to fat, snotty overdrive sounds, this SG covers a wide spectrum while always remaining lively and articulate.

A sound sample of the model can be found above at the end of the photo gallery.

The combination of Tune-O-Matic and Bigsby tremolo further expands the tonal possibilities with subtle vibrato effects while simultaneously underscoring the individual character of this SG. Visually, the guitar captivates with its timeless Walnut Nitro finish, which beautifully highlights the grain of the mahogany and, in combination with the nickel/chrome hardware and authentic vintage patina, conveys an incredible ’70s vibe.

The Gibson SG Pro was only built in this configuration between 1971 and 1972 and is extremely rare. The original Gibson tremolo tailpiece, including the ToM bridge, and the Gibson nickel tuners have been professionally upgraded over time with a high-quality Bigsby tremolo tailpiece and Gibson Deluxe Keystone tuners.

This guitar is in excellent player condition and is technically flawless. The guitar has been played extensively over the decades, so there is some age-related superifical wear which integrates well with the vintage patine of the instrument (see photos). The frets are still in good condition.

The instrument has received a professional setup with 10-46 Elixir Optiweb strings, and I (a long-time guitar teacher) will ship it fully insured with DHL for €49.99 within Germany or €79.99 within the EU. Worldwide shipping available—individual shipping costs upon request.
