The JHS Pedals Coyote Fuzz is a unique octave fuzz based on the obscure Moonrock Fuzz circuit designed by North Carolina builder Glenn S. Wyllie. Unlike most octave fuzz pedals that trace their lineage to the Octavia, Super Fuzz, or Tone Machine circuits, the Coyote is built around Wyllie’s unconventional design that uses a transformer in a distinctive way, producing a sound that stands apart from traditional fuzz topologies.
At the center of the pedal is a single control that sweeps continuously through three distinct sonic zones: swell, fuzz, and octave. This design allows the pedal to move from a gated, bloom-like swell effect to a full-bodied fuzz tone and finally into aggressive octave-up harmonics. Despite being an octave fuzz, the Coyote offers unusual touch sensitivity and responds well to a guitar’s volume knob, allowing players to shape dynamics and clean up the signal more than most pedals in this category.
