The Coyote from JHS Pedals is a unique octave fuzz built from a long-lost circuit with no known lineage. Based on the elusive Moonrock Fuzz by reclusive North Carolina builder Glenn S. Wyllie, this unusual design uses a transformer in an unconventional role—not to create the octave, but to shape the response of the fuzz itself. The result moves from gated swell to full-bodied fuzz to snarling octave-up, all from a single control, with dynamic sensitivity rarely found in any fuzz—let alone an octave fuzz.

The single Swell / Fuzz / Octave knob continuously sweeps through three distinct tonal zones. Counterclockwise, notes bloom in with a gated, reversed-tape-like swell. Around noon, the pedal delivers a rich, chord-friendly fuzz with strong mids and full low end. Fully clockwise, it shifts into aggressive octave-up territory with uneven clipping that emphasizes upper harmonics. Throughout the sweep, the Coyote remains highly responsive to picking dynamics and guitar volume changes, offering surprising cleanup and touch sensitivity.

Designed to live first in your signal chain, the Coyote thrives when pushing an overdriven amp or stacking into another drive. Neck pickup playing above the 12th fret highlights the octave effect, while humbuckers emphasize the swell and single coils retain clarity. True bypass switching and minimal controls keep things simple, while the unusual circuit underneath delivers a fuzz voice that stands apart from the familiar Octavia, Super Fuzz, and Tone Machine families.
