Hello and welcome to the House of Chrome.
You are looking at an obscure, quality Electro Voice microphone that was actually made in japan back in the 1980's when some of the best audio equipment was being built there.
This collaboration between the Japanese and Americans resulted in the PL88 which was sold in the low impedance version (150 OHMS) though E.V also offered the PL88H that came in the high impedance.
This mic had a modern design with a bold black on pastel white scheme that almost reminds you of something a Stormtrooper from Star Wars would use. It's a rugged, lite weight model with an all metal construction.
This mic comes with a longer cable, data sheet, mic case and mic clip. This mic has a bright tone with a touch of warm bass and a very strong signal which will be great for broadcasting and singing as it was intended.
Pic # 2 shows a data sheet with all the basic info on this mic.
Pic # 3 is the actual data sheet you'll be getting.
The PL-88 seemed to have a fairly short run of about 10 years before being discontinued and I really don't know much on the history of this mic other than the "PL" stood for "Professional Line". The mic is appx 7 inches long X 2 inches wide at the bezel of the front screen and comes with the on / off switch which works perfectly. No issues.
As seen in the pics provided there is just very lite wear on the mic. The handle is free of any dents or fractures but there are a few scuff marks as seen in pic # 9. Otherwise, very clean. The E.V label is pretty dang nice and completely legible. The front screen / grill is free of any dents, odors or or tarnish. I cleaned the XLR pins to ensure a perfect signal once the cable is attached. I did have to replace the inner pop filter under the screen as the original was all but worn out. I'd rate the true cosmetic condition of this mic a 9 on a scale of 1 - 10. Still sounds as good as the day it was sold.
The cable is appx 7 feet in length. It's soft, pliable and free of damage. It also comes with the standard male Switchcraft 1/4 inch end connector for use with most audio equipment.
The mic clip is also included and grips the mic very well. It's just as nice as the mic and will screw onto any desk or floor stand you are using.
The original hard to find mic box does show lite wear but works great. A good place to store all the items and great for resale value.
If you are looking for something a little more exotic that's rarely seen today then the PL-88 will get the job done.
