This 2004 Fender CIJ MG-66 Mustang is a high-quality, Japan-made, meticulously detailed reproduction of a 1966 Mustang. With its thin Daphne Blue high-gloss finish and bolt-on maple neck with elegant rosewood fingerboard, it not only looks incredibly stunning but also immediately evokes the quintessential classic Mustang design of the 1960s.

As such, the Fender CIJ MG-66 impresses with the typical short-scale character of this iconic offset guitar. The lightweight, non-contoured poplar body ensures very comfortable handling and a quick response, while the short 610mm scale length, combined with the bolt-on maple neck in a ’60s profile, enables a particularly smooth playing feel.

Plugged into an amp, the two Fender Japan Mustang singlecoil pickups deliver a wiry, direct vintage sound characterized by a distinctive midrange presence that cuts through exceptionally well in a band setting. The characteristic wiring with two separate pickup switches (On/Off/On) allows for flexible tone combinations, ranging from bell-like, clear clean tones to edgier, slightly distorted options. The phases of both pickups can also be reversed, resulting in the sought-after slightly hollow, nasal mid-range tones.
