Here we have a very cool Fender Albert Collins RI Telecaster. It’s an MIJ U-Serial (2010-2011) TL66B. That's a '66 custom with a fully bound ash body & maple neck with maple capped fingerboard. It’s got vintage style frets with a 7.25 radius & medium oval C-shape neck. This comes from a super limited Fender Japan run. Production has long since finished and they were domestic only, which means they were never made for export outside of Japan. There won't be any more of these built. It's a real beauty with some very defined ash grain all over the body front and back, dark cream binding and nice maple grain running up the fingerboard/neck inc. the headstock. It has the correct 'transition' logo on the headstock just like the Iceman's '66 Custom. And as far as I'm aware this is the only fully bound Ash Telecaster with a maple fingerboard Fender Japan ever built. The '62 reissues (TL62B) were alder bodied with rosewood boards. Anyway, it is in nice condition throughout, with light playwear; a couple little bumps, some scuffing around the bottom & some thin scratches on the top & back which can only really be seen when angling towards light. No big nasty stuff, no paint chips etc. There have been no breaks or repairs, neck dead straight, truss rod fine, plenty of life in the frets. Beautiful condition. A heavy resonant ash was used in the construction of this one giving it a total weight of 3.9kg. It has a superb sounding USA Texas Special single coil in the bridge and the original warm, smooth jazzy sounding Dragster humbucker in the neck position. Both sound great, but the middle position is the sweet spot, pure Albert Collins. It plays like a dream too with a very easy action. It is 100% factory specced with 3-ply white scratchplate, 6 saddles, Fender stamped neck plate & klusion style tuners. It’s unusual for Fender Japan to fit it with a Texas Special, most others we have had have had TL Vintage. There are no issues whatsoever, the neck is dead straight, truss rod fine and frets showing very little visible wear. Comes with Telecaster hardcase with key. An absolute beast of a Tele and easily as good as the USA built £3.5k+ Fender custom shop edition and imo it's all the cooler for not having a signature on the headstock (but that's just me.)
