1977 Boogie Bodies Guitar Serial 107 Figured Koa.
One of the early serialized Boogie Bodies guitars made by Lynn Ellsworth. This guitar is a solid highly figured Koa body with a flamed maple neck. There have been numerous mods done over the years but the most obvious is the headstock was capped to allow for a full shelf for the locking nut rather than it resting on half a ledge. the neck looks like it has been through a lot, lots of different tuners were used over the years but the original chevron head gotohs are back on it. I think the neck had been mounted on a different guitar at one point. somewhere along the line someone sanded down the heel however we could see a very faint "107" brand mark. the body has a spacer in the neck pocket which is covering the "boogie bodies" brand. its been finishes over and under UV testing all of the clear coat on the body glows the same vintage green glow. one hole on the top of the body was also filled. The output jack cover was once a square plate and those screw holes plugged and finished over. Back in those days these guitars were the original modding hot rod guitar. Lynn started the entire industry. I've done lots of research on boogie bodies and have talked with various historians who document these to track down all the details. we were able to date this to late 1977. Back in those days nobody thought these were going to be so sought after and well they did start the entire modding community. a lot of these guitars have had mods done to them. I personally like the way this one was done. Floyd rose on a boogie bodies is pure heaven. Frets definitely been replaced at least once, as of now they are perfect. This guitar came from an estate sale from a musician who knew Lynn.
The boogie bodies guitars were what EVH used for the franky guitar. Wayne Charvel was good friends with Lynn and he would get all of the pre-pro charvel guitar bodies and necks from Lynn. as would a bunch of other companies who were just getting started out. These guitars are something real special. the wood that Lynn used is really good stuff. I've had other koa guitars that were on the heavy side but this guitar is a touch under 7lbs and it has a really vibrant tone. the neck feels just like some of the old charvel's I've played. Very comparable to a pre-pro charvel. These are some very legendary guitars and this one is an amazing player. The figure on the koa can be hard to see but its very nice and is very 3d. Shipping is going to be expensive, not just because the insurance but the flight case is very huge and heavy but you can guarantee its going to arrive in great shape.
